The origin of dorsal metapleural area is uncertain. Accepting the hypothesis of Vilhelmsen 2000b, the metapleuron is delimited posterodorsally by the metapleural sulcus and corresponding metapleural ridge in Apocrita. However, in many apocritan taxa (e.g. Platygastroidea and some other sensu lato Proctotrupoidea, in some Ichenumonoidea and all Ceraphronoidea the borders of originally 1st abdominal tergal and metapleural muscle is marekd by the metapleural carina. The propodeal spiracle (first abdominal spiracle) is allways posterior to the carina. Any idea how to decide the origin of the area?
