alternative definition added over 10 years ago by Andy Deans
The sitophore is situated in the proximal part of the hypopharynx between the morphological and functional mouth. It is concave anteriorly, forming the troughlike floor of the cibarium, and usually more heavily sclerotised laterally than mesally. The proximal margin have a pair of lateral arms. The lateral corners of the distal margin extends toward, but do not fuse with, the tormae. Pegshaped sensilla are situated on the surface of the sitophore, usually concentrated along its lateral margins
