Sclerite on the side of the thorax between the lateral panel of the pronotum and the mesopleuron; in most chalcids the prepectus looks like separate, more or less triangular sclerites on either side of the thorax, but usually it is at least narrowly continuous ventrally under the procoxae (see prepectal shelf); in some chalcids the prepectus is reduced and difficult to see and in a few it is fused to the pronotum; sometimes called the postspiracular sclerite.
